Homemade Sourdough Croutons Recipe: Crunchy, Flavorful, and Perfect for Fall

Crispy, golden, and full of flavor, these homemade sourdough croutons are perfect for soups, salads, or snacking. Simple to make and a delicious way to use leftover bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups sourdough bread cubes (preferably a day or two old)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika for a smoky flavor *Optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the bread cubes with olive oil or melted butter and all seasonings until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. Let cool and store in an airtight container. Perfect for soups, salads, or snacking!

Notes

This makes a fantastic gift idea for the holidays! Add the fresh croutons to a mason jar with lid or a treat bag. Tie with twine and add a hand-written tag for a little charm! You can print my soup recipes and gift them to try with their croutons.
