More Sustainable
In my household we eat alot of mandarin oranges. They are the perfect grab and go healthy snack! It seemed like such a waste throwing away all of those peels. I cannot feed them to the chickens and they are not recommended in compost due to their acidity. I am happy that I have found a different solution to utilize these valuable scraps. Earlier I posted about utilizing dried oranges in your holiday home decor. We recently took down our decorations and this was a great way to reuse the slices! How to Make DIY Natural Orange Multipurpose Cleaner
What You’ll Need
You will need:
- Quart Sized Jar With Lid (can be larger for larger batches)
- White Vinegar
- Orange Scraps (can add lemon or lime too)
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Tea Towel
- Funnel
- Multipurpose Spray Bottle
Assemble the Ingredients
Fill a clean jar of choice with orange scraps. You may also add limes or lemons. Fill the jar with white vinegar, stopping about an inch below the top.
Tighten lid and place in a cool, dark area for 14 days. If you are not a fan of vinegar, do not fret. The vinegar smell dissipates and you are left with a delicious citrusy smell.
Strain
After the 14 days are complete, line a mixing bowl with a tea towel and pour the contents of the jar into the bowl.
Lift the towel, allowing the liquid to fully drain into the bowl. Squeeze the towel to remove any excess liquid.
Using a funnel, gently pour the contents of the bowl into the spray bottle. A bowl with a pouring spout make this alot easier. You may also use a measuring cup to scoop the liquid out and pour into the bottle.
This cleaner is concentrated so fill the bottle with water. Place the lid on, give it a shake to combine the ingredients, and your DIY natural orange multipurpose cleaner is ready to use! This is great on counter tops, cleaning appliances, use in bathrooms and more!
