The other night I woke up at 3 a.m. overwhelmed an The other night I woke up at 3 a.m. overwhelmed and ended up in prayer… thinking about Ruth, about provision, and about all the “wheat” God has placed in my own life during some of my hardest seasons.

The next day, in the quiet of our garden… I found something I wasn’t expecting.

And it stopped me in my tracks.

Sometimes God doesn’t always give answers right away …sometimes He leaves reminders.

Little ones. Right where we’ll notice them.

If you’re in a waiting season, I hope this encourages you today.

I’ve been using freshly milled flour for about a y I’ve been using freshly milled flour for about a year and a half now, and it has completely changed the way I bake.

There’s a deeper flavor to everything, and I love knowing that the flour I’m using is truly fresh and full of the nutrients naturally found in the grain. A lot of store-bought flour sits on shelves for long periods of time and is often bleached or heavily processed, but freshly milled flour feels much closer to the way it was originally intended to be used.

I can honestly tell a difference in how I feel after eating it, too.

But beyond all of that, milling flour at home has made me feel more connected to the process of baking itself. Watching whole grains turn into soft flour right in your own kitchen is kind of amazing. It slows things down in the best way and makes homemade bread, muffins, pancakes, and pastries feel even more meaningful.

After being sold out and waitlisted for months, the Nutrimill is finally back in stock again. If you’ve been wanting to start baking with fresh-milled flour, now is probably the perfect time 🤍

There was a stained glass window in the cabin bath There was a stained glass window in the cabin bathroom that I can’t stop thinking about.

Old wood, a simple little latch, and every morning you’d open it up and the forest would just pour in. Birdsong, cool air, soft light spilling across the log walls. It was the kind of quiet that doesn’t feel empty, it feels full.

That whole weekend was like that. Cornhole in the yard, campfire nights, good food, long hikes, and the kind of family time that settles deep into you.

And I keep thinking about how easy it is to get so focused on building a life that we forget to actually live it.

Time is moving whether we notice or not. The kids are growing. Seasons are changing. Life is happening right now.

I’m glad we slowed down long enough to feel it.

This Instant Pot Mississippi Pot Roast has become one of those recipes I make again and again because it’s SO versatile. Serve it over mashed potatoes for the ultimate comfort meal, pile the leftovers onto toasted sliders with Swiss cheese, or turn the shredded beef into tacos, enchiladas, or barbecue sandwiches the next day.

One of our favorite summer lunches lately? Toasted buns piled high with this tender shredded roast, pickles, and my homemade barbecue sauce. So simple and so good.

It’s rich, flavorful, comforting, and unbelievably easy to make in the Instant Pot.

I made bread yesterday and it is not “perfect” sou I made bread yesterday and it is not “perfect” sourdough by internet standards.

No dramatic open crumb. No picture-perfect scoring.

But it is soft, delicious, and honestly one of my favorite loaves I’ve ever made.

And it reminded me that bread was never meant to be a performance. It was meant to feed people.

So if you are feeling intimidated by sourdough or overthinking every step, just start.

Make the bread. Feed your family. Learn as you go.

Perfection is not the goal. Bread is.

I went to fill the bird feeders and found the tini I went to fill the bird feeders and found the tiniest little face looking up at me 🤍

He stayed with us all afternoon… walking the yard, visiting the girls, and keeping us company while we worked. We think he’s one of the babies from the nest in our old block wall.

We named him Birdnard (obviously).

Just a quiet little moment that felt like a gift.

This place still has a long way to go, but it’s starting to feel like home. The birds keep coming around, the plants are doing their thing, and it’s just… peaceful.

I went down to our building yesterday and just sat I went down to our building yesterday and just sat out there for a while.

I didn’t have anywhere to be.
No rush. No reason to leave.

I watered the flowers, watched the chickens, and added a few little things…
turned that lantern into a bird feeder, hung a bit of decor on the coop, and finally set up the old coop door as a trellis for my clematis.

Nothing big, but it felt really peaceful.

Every time I’m there, it just feels like home already.
And I always end up a little sad when it’s time to leave.

For now, I’ll take getting to go “play” down there whenever I can 🤍

Our kitchen has officially turned into a little pa Our kitchen has officially turned into a little pasta shop lately… and I’m not mad about it 🤍

We’ve been making everything from fettuccine to tortellini, but this sourdough lasagna has quickly become a family favorite. It’s layered, cheesy, comforting… the kind of meal that brings everyone to the table without being asked twice.

And every time I make it, I picture future evenings in our home… a backyard dinner under string lights, fresh salad, warm garlic bread, a little wine, and this lasagna right in the middle of it all.

Simple food. Slow moments. The kind you remember.

The soft return of green 🌿 After a few days away, The soft return of green 🌿

After a few days away, the rain had done its quiet work. The garden changed almost overnight!!Everything feels like it is waking up at once, stretching toward something new.

I keep thinking about what this space will become one day. A real garden. A place to sit with something cold in hand, listening to chickens, birds, and wind moving through the vines. ❤️

For now, I just get to watch it all begin again.

I already knew what these were the second I pulled I already knew what these were the second I pulled them out.

But I had a feeling not everyone would.

We were demoing one of the original windows in our 120-year-old building, and I grabbed these out of the wall. Heavy, simple, and something you would never notice unless you have worked on an old house before.

It made me curious how many little details like this we have forgotten over time.

Things that used to be normal just quietly disappeared as homes changed.

So now I want to know… did you recognize them right away?

We lost Edith, and in the middle of that, life just felt… heavier than usual. Add in a back injury, and everything slowed down in a way I didn’t plan for.

This is the hardest part of homesteading. It’s ea This is the hardest part of homesteading.

It’s easy to share the fresh eggs, the slow mornings, the simple joys. The cozy parts. The ones that feel like a dream you’re building with your own two hands.

But this… this is part of it too.

Today we had to say goodbye to one of our girls.

She had been struggling all day, and we did everything we could think to do. We sat with her, kept her warm, prayed over her, and hoped she would pull through. But as the hours passed, it became clear that loving her well meant letting her go.

So we wrapped her up, carried her out to the coop, and let the others gather around her one last time. It felt important… like they needed to understand, in their own quiet way, that she wasn’t coming back.

And then, in the gentlest and most selfless act of love, Jason helped her pass peacefully and quickly.

We buried her in the garden, where life will keep growing, just like it always does.

Homesteading is beautiful. It’s meaningful. It’s full of life and purpose.

But it also asks something of you.

It asks you to show up on the hard days.
To make decisions that break your heart.
To love your animals enough to give them a good life… and a dignified ending.

Tonight feels heavy.

But I’m grateful we could give her a peaceful goodbye. 🤍

The chickens were out, and all these tiny songbirds were right there with them, pecking around like they belonged together.

They made little bird friends and it honestly made my whole day!

I keep thinking about what this place is going to be one day. A garden, bird feeders, slow evenings, and little moments like this everywhere you look.

Some days are heavy. Stress, grief, uncertainty, i Some days are heavy. Stress, grief, uncertainty, it all piles up. But this place, this old building, this home, is my comfort.

When I walk in, it feels like a warm hug. I can sit, breathe, and just be for a little while. Somehow, even when the world feels too heavy, I feel peace here.

This is the place worth fighting for. The place that reminds me that no matter what life throws my way, there is still a corner of the world where I feel like I belong.

Do you have a place like this for you?

We’ve been trying to be more mindful about waste l We’ve been trying to be more mindful about waste lately. Just paying attention to what we’re using and what we’re throwing away.

Not anything extreme… just slowly learning to be more intentional with what we use and what we throw away.

Composting has been such an easy place to start.

Nothing complicated. Just scraps, a simple system, and letting it turn back into something useful.

I shared how we’re doing spring composting over on the blog if you’ve been wanting a more low-waste rhythm at home without overthinking it 🤍

I looked away for two seconds and suddenly we’ve got a full investigation happening in my flower pot. No training, just vibes.

They’re better than TV. Always “helping,” always in something, always making me laugh.

Somewhere between restoring our old Main Street building and building our dream little mini homestead, I apparently hired a team of chaotic garden assistants.

Would you do it? Every single thing that goes int Would you do it?

Every single thing that goes into this home has to go up these stairs. And I mean everything. Windows that weigh a few hundred pounds. Sheets of drywall. Subfloor. Two by fours. Tools. Furniture. All of it.

There are days we stand at the bottom, look up, and just laugh a little because it feels a bit crazy. But then again, this place is worth it to us. Every step, every load, every sore muscle.

So I have to ask… would you do it? Or are we just a little crazy?

Taco night at home just hits differently. 🌮These Instant Pot pork carnitas are one of my favorite dinners because they feel impressive, but they’re actually incredibly easy to make! You can throw everything together, let the Instant Pot work its magic, and use that time to prep the fresh corn salsa and toppings. The result? Tender, juicy pork packed with warm spices and bright citrus flavor without standing in the kitchen all day.And honestly… the homemade Mexican corn salsa is what makes this recipe unforgettable. Then add in creamy avocado, lime juice, cilantro to add balance to the rich pork. Chef’s kiss. 🤌We love serving these in homemade sourdough tortillas, classic corn tortillas, taco bowls over rice, or even over fresh greens for a lighter option.Pair it with a cold strawberry kefir lemonade or margarita, gather everyone around the table, and you’ve got yourself a cozy little five-star dinner at home. ✨I will link these recipes in the comments below 👇This is one of those meals that feels perfect for summer evenings with family and friends. What’s your go-to taco topping? … See MoreSee Less
