Snow Day Comfort Food Recipes to Make When You Are Stuck Inside
There is something magical about a fresh snowfall. This past weekend, the Midwest got hammered with a winter storm, leaving several inches of snow blanketing everything outside. I always love when it snows because the world gets quiet, and the house feels cozier than usual. My favorite thing to do is bundle up, head outside with Scarlett, our little Bichon Poodle mix, and play in the snow while snapping photos of her hopping through the drifts. When we come back inside, I light a candle in the windowsill so it flickers while I cook cozy food for my family. There is truly nothing better than the smell of comforting meals filling the house while the snow falls quietly outside.
Since winter storms mean being stuck inside, I thought I would share my favorite snow day comfort food recipes. These meals are simple, nourishing, and perfect for warming up both your body and your soul.

Breakfast: Turmeric Biscuits and Gravy
Start the day with a warm, hearty breakfast that will fill everyone up and set the tone for a cozy day indoors. My sourdough buttermilk biscuits are tender and golden, paired with a rich, savory turmeric sausage gravy that has just the right spice to make every bite comforting. This breakfast is perfect for snowy mornings when you do not want to leave the house but want something special on the table.
Lunch: Creamy Baked Potato Soup
For lunch, nothing beats a loaded baked potato soup. This creamy, cheesy soup with bacon and onions is exactly what you want after shoveling snow or playing outside. Serve it with a slice of sourdough bread to soak up every bit of the soup. It is hearty, filling, and gives your body the warmth and comfort it needs during a snow day.
Dinner: Mississippi Pot Roast
When it comes to dinner, Mississippi pot roast is my go-to for a snow day. This flavorful pot roast simmers to perfection and pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, making it the ultimate cozy meal. The aroma fills the kitchen and makes the whole house feel like a big warm hug. It is easy to make in the Instant Pot, so you can spend more time enjoying the snow or curling up with a blanket and a book.
Dessert: Sourdough Discard Cinnamon Rolls
And lastly, for the ULTIMATE snowy day favorite…we have the ooey gooey cinnamon roll…
No snow day is complete without a sweet treat. My sourdough discard cinnamon rolls are a favorite in our home. They are soft, fluffy, and just sweet enough to satisfy a craving without feeling heavy. The smell of these cinnamon rolls baking fills the house with warmth and makes any winter day feel extra special. Serve them warm with coffee or milk and enjoy a little indulgence after a long, snowy day.

There you have it — four cozy recipes that make snow days something to look forward to. From hearty breakfasts to indulgent desserts, these meals turn a quiet, snowy day into a comforting and delicious experience for the whole family.
Wishing you cozy winter days, friend.
