Creamy Baked Parmesan Herb Rice (Easy Oven-Baked Side Dish)
There are some recipes that are carefully planned, tested, and tweaked… and then there are the ones that just happen.
This rice was one of those happy accidents.
Last night I needed a side dish something creamy, warm, and comforting but I didn’t want to fuss. I had a can of cream of chicken soup in the pantry, some leftover rice, a little cream in the fridge, and a hunch that herbs and parmesan would pull it all together.
And oh friend… it did.
This creamy baked parmesan herb rice came out rich without being heavy, savory without being complicated, and exactly the kind of cozy side dish that feels right at home next to roast chicken, pork chops, or even a simple weeknight skillet meal.
If you love no-fuss comfort food made from real-life pantry staples, this one’s for you.

Why You’ll Love This Creamy Baked Rice
- Made with pantry staples – nothing fancy or hard to find
- Easy oven-baked side dish – no babysitting on the stove
- Creamy, cozy, and flavorful without being overly rich
- Perfect for weeknights or Sunday dinner
- Flexible – easy to tweak based on what you have
This is the kind of recipe that earns a permanent spot in your rotation.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 cup dry basmati rice (cooked according to package directions)
- 1 can Campbell’s cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¾ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¾ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for gentle heat)
- ¼ to ½ cup grated parmesan cheese (to taste)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
How to Make Creamy Baked Parmesan Herb Rice
1. Cook the Rice
Prepare the basmati rice according to package directions using 1 cup broth and 1 cup water. Fluff and set aside. Before using my rice cooker, I never felt like I made tender delicious rice. It always seemed less fluffy and the texture was all wrong. I really feel like it takes the guess work out of it and I get perfect rice every time.
2. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
3. Mix Everything Together
In a large bowl, combine:
- Cream of chicken soup
- Chicken broth
- Heavy cream
- Oregano, thyme, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes
- Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper
Stir in the cooked rice until everything is evenly coated.

4. Bake Until Bubbly
Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for about 15 minutes, or until the edges are bubbling and the rice is heated through.
That’s how you know it’s ready.

- If you want a golden top, sprinkle a little extra parmesan on top before baking.
- This dish thickens as it cools, making it perfect for serving straight from the oven.
- For added crunch and depth of flavor, top it with homemade bread crumbs (using my recipe for sourdough croutons) before you bake.
