Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix (Tastes Like Hidden Valley)
There is something so comforting about that familiar ranch flavor, cool, herby, creamy, and full of nostalgia. Instead of buying another packet at the store with ingredients I can barely pronounce, I like to keep a small jar of my own homemade ranch seasoning mix stocked in the pantry.
It is made with real herbs, simple spices, and none of the additives you will find in the packets. And the best part? It tastes just like Hidden Valley, maybe even better.

How I Discovered Homemade Ranch Seasoning
I still remember the very first time I made this mix. I was standing in my kitchen getting ready to make Mississippi pot roast, and the moment I reached into the cabinet for a ranch packet, I realized I did not have any left. Instead of running to the store, I decided to make my own. I mixed a few herbs together, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. The pot roast came out perfect, and I have been making my own ranch seasoning ever since.
Around here, I sprinkle this on everything, roasted potatoes, weeknight chicken, homemade popcorn, and even into cracker mixes when I want something savory and cozy. I keep a jar tucked right between my oregano and smoked paprika, and it always disappears faster than I expect.
If you have never made your own seasoning blends before, this is the perfect one to start with. I will also include a couple of others after this post that you and your family will love too!
Why You Will Love This Ranch Seasoning
- Simple ingredients. Just herbs and spices you already have.
- No fillers or preservatives. (Have you seen what is on the back of the Hidden Valley packets?)
- Budget friendly. Far cheaper than store bought packets.
- Versatile. Use it for dips, dressings, rubs, potatoes, chicken, casseroles, popcorn, and more.
- Shelf stable and perfect for pantry mixes or gifting.
Homemade seasoning blends are one of those little homestead tricks that make everyday meals feel intentional, even on the busiest days.

Storing Your Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix
Once you’ve made your ranch seasoning mix, keeping it fresh is key to maintaining that bright, herby flavor. I like to store mine in a small, airtight jar like these tucked right in my pantry, away from heat and sunlight. This keeps it flavorful for up to 6 months, and it’s always ready whenever I want to sprinkle it on roasted veggies, chicken, or popcorn.
If you want your seasoning to look as charming as it tastes, I love using cute glass jars with tight-fitting lids. They’re perfect for gift giving, and they make your pantry feel organized and cozy at the same time. You can check out some of my other favorites here: ComSaf Jars or Jars With Bamboo Lids
A little tip: label your jars with the date you made the mix so you always know how fresh it is. It’s a small step that keeps your pantry feeling intentional and beautiful, and it helps make cooking feel a little more magical.
A Cozy Note from My Kitchen
I have been making more pantry mixes lately. There is something grounding about knowing exactly what is in your food. On slow mornings, when the house is quiet and the sun is sending warm light through the windows, I like to light a candle and restock a few of these jars.
This ranch seasoning mix is always one of the first to be refilled. It brings a little comfort to even the simplest meals, and I hope it does the same in your home.
